Donnie Alford

October 22, 1955 — March 15, 2020

Donnie Lewis Alford was born on October 22, 1955, to the union of Henry Lee Alford and Laura Belle Wamble Alford. He has been a resident of Warm Springs, GA his entire life.

Donnie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Leverette Hill Baptist Church of Warm Springs, GA.  He received his formal education at Meriwether County Public Schools. He was employed at Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation until his retirement in 2008 after 34 years of service.

Donnie was an avid fisherman and could sit on the banks for hours.  He also loved planting and gardening and could make anything grow. He truly possessed a green thumb.  Most of all, he loved his family and all others that crossed his path.  He had a great spirit of help and would give anyone the shirt off of his back if he could.  He helped his family and others in the community at the drop of a dime.

Donnie departed this life on Sunday, March 15, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Lee Alford; his mother Laura Belle Wamble Alford; his sisters, Willie Ruth Alford Caldwell and Murray Harris and his nieces Arlesia Alford and Kameka Cofield.

He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Robert Alford (Shalondra) of Warm Springs, GA  ; two loving sisters, Willie Mae Copeland of Conley, GA and Windy Lee Swann (Marion) of Warm Springs, GA; his nieces Tiffaney Johnson (Tracy) of Pickerington, OH; Latasha Brawner (Kenyatta) of Manchester, GA; Jacqueline Caldwell of Reynoldsburg, OH and Sheenika Clemons of Manchester, GA; his nephews Benjamin Alford (Patricia) of LaGrange, GA, Robert Caldwell of Warm Springs, GA; Antonio Alford of Warm Springs, GA; Robert Alford, Jr. and Marcus Alford; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.  He will be dearly missed by two of his closest friends, Tommy Crawl and Joe Butts, Jr.
