Emanuel Owens

July 1, 1920 — March 2, 2018

Emanuel Owens passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, March 2, 2018 from complications of pneumonia.  He was born on July 1, 1920 in Shiloh, Georgia the oldest of 4 children to the late Edna Smith.  Emanuel attended St. Paul Elementary School.  He married Johnnie  Rea Owens from Shiloh, Ga. and they raised their only daughter, Robin Owens Graddy together.

Prior to Emanuel retiring from Newell-Rubbermaid Goody Products, Manchester, Georgia in late 1980's he worked for the saw mill in Shiloh, GA. the coal factory in Columbus, GA. and the cotton mill in Manchester, Ga.  In 1996 he moved to Atlanta, Ga. to live with his daughter Robin and her husband Bruce Graddy.

In Emanuel's spare time he enjoyed dancing, spending time with his family and friends and being the life of the party.  He was known for his big personality and love of life, great food and great wine.

He was preceded in death by his wife Johnnie Rea Owens mother Edna Smith, sister Laura Kate "Junie" Ellison and brother Jimmy Lee Smith.  He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Robin (Bruce Graddy, Sr. ) Owens, sister: Mrs. Louise (Sam) Richardson, two grandson: John (Alexis Daughtery) Owens and Bruce Graddy, Jr. his granddaughter Alaijah Daughtery and Goddaughter Diane Mitchell and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives that affectionately knew him as "Slick" or Uncle Manga".
