Irene 'Big Mama' Hardnett

August 10, 1922 — June 21, 2015

Irene Hardnett, the daughter of the late Noni Adams and Jesse Hill of Meriwether County, Georgia was born August 10, 1922. Family, friends, and many others lovingly referred to her as "Big Mama".

She accepted Christ at an early age and faithfully served as an active member of Concord Baptist Church and was a Ward Leader for many years. She retired from American Excelsior where she worked as a seamstress. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cooking / baking for family gatherings, church functions, and friends. She was well known for her delicious pound cakes.

Irene united in holy matrimony with the late John Thomas Hardnett, Sr. on November 27, 1949 and to this union four children were born; one child Gwendolyn preceded her in death. She departed this life on Sunday, June 21, 2015 surrounded by family.

She leaves to cherish her memory with love four children and three grandsons of which she raised as her own. Mr. John Thomas Hardnett, Sr. (Jolene) of Waverly Hall, GA, Mrs. Greta Marshall, Mr. Charlie T. Hardnett (Elizabeth), and Mrs. Pamela Woodall (Brian) all of Woodland, GA. Mr. John D. Hardnett of Woodland, GA, Mr. Tyrone Hardnett (Zenobia) of Atlanta, GA and Dr. Efferen V. Hardnett of Austell, GA.

Grandchildren: Ms. Kimwanna Hardnett and Ms. Garnesha Harris of Atlanta, GA. Ms. Monica Marshall, Ms. Renarda Marshall, and Ms. Cherizma Terry all of Woodland, GA and Ms. Dominique Hardnett of Flint Hill, GA.

Great-Grandchildren: Shantara Rambo, Jha'Mari Buckner, Armonie Marshall, and Lance Speed, Jr., all of Woodland, GA. Isaiah, Zaria, Zion and, Zayda Hardnett, Kayla Lester, and Kenya Lester all of Atlanta, GA.

Two Nieces: Freddie R. Dunbar of Detroit, Michigan and Ruby Anthony of Manchester GA. One Nephew: Rufus Hill of Manchester, GA. One devoted Sister in Law: Rubye Hardnett of Woodland, GA. One brother in law: Melvin Hardnett of Cleveland, OH.

Two devoted nieces: Lisa Hardnett and Gloria Ann Hardnett-Johnson of Atlanta, GA. Three devoted friends Jackie Williams and Odessa Hardnett of Woodland, GA and Norman Miller and family of Sarasota, FL. A devoted caregiver, Mrs. Vanessa Holt and a host of niece's nephews, relatives, and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday,June 26,2015 @1:00pm at Concord Baptist Church in Woodland, GA. The burial will be held at Concord Baptist Church. The viewing will be Thursday, June 25,2015 from 1:00pm until 8:00pm at Anderson & Marshall Funeral Home Inc.
