Laura Johnson Spivey

Sis. Laura Johnson Spivey, of Manchester, Georgia was born March 22, 1933.  In Washington County, Georgia To the late Lewis and Catherine Johnson.

After Graduating from T. J. Eldes High School in Sandersville, Georgia, she received a Bachelor’s Degree from Fort Valley State University.   After a number of years of teaching, she furthered her education and received her Master Degree from Columbus State University.

Sis. Spivey was married to the late Dea. Andrew L. Spivey.   Upon the union he joined her at the Calvary Baptist Church where she had been for several years.  Together they joined the New Hope Baptist Church family and served faithfully.

Sis. Spivey gave over 42 years of Educational service to Talbot and Meriwether County mainly at Manchester Elementary School.

Very active in community service, she continued to tutor students after retirement.

She loved and very proud to be a part of THE DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC. Greenville – Manchester Area Alumnae Chapter where she was able to take numerous trips to conventions and report back her findings.  She also held office of President.

Deaconess Spivey leaves to cherish her memory a loving granddaughter: Tameika Johnson and a sweet and caring great granddaughter: Aliyah Hill both of Pine Mountain, GA.; A brother: William Henry (Mary) Johnson of Tennille, GA.; Two daughters: Gwendolyn and Rosslyn Spivey of Jacksonville, FL.; Grandchildren: Tyron Upshaw of Colorado Spring, Marcus Upshaw of Las Vegas, NV. And Monic Upshaw of Jacksonville, FL.  A devoted and loving and caring Godson: Victor Copeland of Manchester, GA.; She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins, relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.

The family of Laura Spivey would also like to thank the Staff of Encompass and In Home Hospice.  And also to all the “Angels” that helped in her care giving.  Dorothy Johnson, Peggy McCoy, Debra Buckley and Sandra McGee.
