We are here to celebrate the life of Rogers Brawner. He was born in Elberton, Georgia on November 22, 1936 to the late Mr. William Coy Brawner Sr. and the late Mrs. Jeanie Mary Smith Brawner. He transitioned into eternal life on July 13, 2016 at West Georgia Medical Center in Lagrange, Ga.
He became a member of the Lord's church at an early age. Rogers is a 1955 graduate of Elberton High School. He was an active member of the United States Army from 1955-1960. In 1960, he worked at Wades Cafeteria in Oklahoma. Rogers owned his own restaurant in Elberton, Ga. He was employed with Coggins Granite Company. During 1971-1976, he worked for Bailey's Landscaping. Rogers attended Ministerial school at Columbus School of Preaching in Columbus, Ga. He was one of the members that started the NAACP in Manchester. Rogers was an Old 97 distributor and the owner and operator of Brawner and Son's Landscaping for many years. In 2013, He became the first black minister of a predominantly white church in Cataula, Ga named Harris County Church of Christ. Bro.Brawner has been preaching the gospel for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Flossie Allen and his daughter, Chinwe.
He leaves to mourn a devoted wife, Annie Ruth Brawner. Two brothers; Willie Coy Brawner, Jr(Margaret) and Curtis Brawner, Elberton, Ga. Four sons; Oliver K. Brawner, Los Angeles, California, Troy D. Glaze(Deborah) and William Rogers Brawner, Elbeton, Ga, and Kenyatta Brawner(Latasha) Manchester, Ga. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, his church family and extended family members.
